What's in a day !

“What is women’s day mom?”…..

Few days back my kid asked me this question. And I explained him with my whatsoever ability that it’s a day dedicated to all women in respect, love and appreciation for what they do or contribute to a family or society in large.
But I failed somehow with my words as it was a little obscure and puzzling for him(being a six year old boy). So I had to make it simpler and tell him that since a woman is a mother and gives birth and takes care of the baby and the family like i do with lots of love, we thank them and appreciate them this day. We do the same for you as we acknowledge your effort, when you behave as a good boy.

I didn’t want to bombard his untainted psyche with stuffs like a woman’s fight and struggle for equality and respect in all aspects of society from generations as basic human right is an ongoing process. And the women’s day being one of the nominal manner to reconcile with that. That the battle still continues every walk of life for her to prove to be an equal counterpart. The road ahead is tough and taxing but that every civilisation has to go through this swirl and churn for what it stands for today, for better.

Then it struck in my mind. So,what is it that I do to contribute ? The very first thing I can do for being a mother to a son is to imbibe right set of values; as to respect woman and womanhood in true sense and treat them as equal being. That’s the basic. There are times when everything fails, all we need to do is to keep life simple and start from the basic.

So I say what’s in a day! Everyday is a women’s day if we value a woman everyday as much as we value a man too.

“Mama, Why don’t we celebrate Men’s day?”

That’s a million dollar question. Let me tell you I was not ready for this. But the story does not end here. This one I save it for some other heyday. Until then love and respect, equally and unbiased for all.

  1. “The very first thing I can do for being a mother to a son is to imbibe right set of values as to respect women and womanhood in true sense and treat them as equal counterparts.” So very true! This is where many mothers, and some sisters as well, slip.

  2. I definitely believe in that .. each day is women-men-mother-father- etc etc DAY, dont know why we have JUST one day in the year ..

and teaching the kids the right thing is very important for the future of any generation and a nation

  3. I suppose the same thing can be said of all the ‘days’ we celebrate. Why celebrate a birthday when we can be happy on all our days? Why celebrate Valentine’s Day when we can love on all days? Why have days commemorating anything at all? If it is worth doing on one day, surely it’s worth doing on all others?

    Nice post πŸ™‚

    I totally agree, Chaitali.
Wish all Moms impart the right values to their kids- both boys & girls.
    May everyone respect women….

And yes, there is an International Men’s Day celebrated too! πŸ™‚

  6. I’m amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both educative and engaging,
and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail onn the head. The probllem is something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy I stumbled across this during my search for
    somethin relating too this.

Your words matter...
